Guest Book

Hello everyone!

If you're stopping by for the first time, please feel free to leave your name in the comments for this thread.  Maybe tell everyone a little about yourself.  This is a conversation, so maybe it's good to get to know who is talking...

So let me introduce myself first:  I'm Dave Johnson and I have been retained by The New Community Coalition as project coordinator for the Regional Sustainability Visioning Project.  Those who have been around the Telluride area for more than a few years would know me from my work with Telluride's affordable housing program as both Executive Director of Telluride Housing Authority and as a Telluride Town Council member.  My job is to take care of the planning, communication and research coordination that is required for this project.  Generally, you won't hear much opinion out of me in this capacity, though I will occasionally jump in to a conversation where my expertise is useful.

TNCC has also retained Nigel Strafford to facilitate the various focus group meetings that will be held throughout the 2008-09 ski season.  I'll let him introduce himself separately.

We will be using this blog both as a conversation tool for the community and a place where we can post information that is relevant to the RSVP process.  I'll talk about that more in another post.

Welcome to the conversation...

Since first visiting San Miguel County in January 2007, and especially after moving to Telluride, I've been appreciating its qualities, in all its environments--personal, social, built and natural (the four environments distinguished by Donella Meadows). I certainly arrived at an interesting time in the region's history, and look forward to facilitating anyone who wants to contribute their story and help build shared visions of our future here.

I've been learning about sustainability, community forestry and organization development since 1994, when I joined an interdisciplinary team as a graduate student to write a textbook on sustainability. I got to know our region in 1999 as webmaster for the Four Corners Sustainable Forests Partnership. Every resident and visitor can help us learn much of what gives life to this region and how to sustain that productivity.
